The Garden is Growing!

It's amazing what can happen when you have a little faith. Going into this garden I was skeptical that anything would grow, especially when I didn't 'see' anything happening just a couple of days after we planted. Our tomato plants took off, we started them from a 1 gallon size plant and they are now as tall or taller than out fruit trees. The garden has also done pretty well, it won't be ready to harvest until after we move but it's still been fun to watch it grow. So we've filled our bellies with lots of tomato's, some strawberries and one plum from out tree. This fun experience has made me want to have a garden each year now, as long as my not so green thumb keeps working.

Family Night

(Plum tree, and the yellow pear tomatoes)

(Orange tree, two red tomato plants)

For family home evening we decided we had to get our garden in, we'd procrastinated long enough. So today the kids and I went shopping for some flowers, tomato plants and strawberries. (That was an event in itself) I found this nursery in town and they were extremely helpful. The owner of the nursery let the kids pick out a free flower of their choice since they were so well behaved. I think she was just trying to send us on our merry little way!

They were excited that their dad let them plant them. With a little help, of course.

The kids got a kick out of planting the seeds. I was surprised that a lot of the things I wanted to garden were more for the fall. So we gave it our best shot and hopefully should harvest it all in June. (Corn, cantaloupe, summer squash, cucumber, pumpkin, green beans, tomatoes and strawberries.) Both our plum and mandarin orange trees bloomed but I won't hold my breath for fruit. I've realized I lack a lot of faith when it comes to things growing. Updates to come...
