It's crazy how once you're an adult, you realize the holidays that gave you a long weekend when in school, actually mean something. The last couple of years I've really come to appreciate Memorial Day. We try every year to stop by a cemetery and give thanks to all those that have served and those that have given the ultimate sacrifice. Ft. Sam has a beautiful national cemetery, so we took the kids out so they could appreciate the holiday as well. The kids were really good about being respectful and helped Kev straighten some flags on the graves. It was really neat to see the different dates and all the wars that these individuals had served in.
After we left the cemetery we headed to a historical place on Ft. Sam called the Quadrangle. They have deer you can feed and peacocks, geese and ducks that roam around. We were the only visitors and got the animals all to ourselves.
The video won't load of the kids feeding the deer. I'll try later.
Ethan also turned two months today and is growing like a weed, he's just under 12lbs. He likes to smile a lot and seems to tolerate the other kids pretty well. It's been a blessing to have a new baby in the house, we sure enjoy his sweet spirit.
Here is the smiley boy!

I love peacocks. Like, an abnormal amount.
And I definitely know what you mean about the holidays thing. There are other things that you learn to appreciate only once you grow up. Like bed-time.
Something that makes me laugh about AZ (I guess you're in Texas, but same thing) is that they set up little zoos for kids to be able to actually see deer. Ever since we have moved here, I feel like I'm at the zoo all of the time because we see deer in our front yard, not to mention all of the foxes, groundhogs, wild turkeys, and all kinds of squirrels and pretty birds. Hopefully NC wil be the same way.
I love Ethan's smile! What a cutie! I think it is great that you took your kids out on Memorial Day and shared that experience with them.
Ethan is such a doll! Thanks for posting all the pics. Please let me know how things go for you in NC...I hope you can connect with some of my peeps--they're great folks! :)
