Resolution time!

It's a new year which means time for resolutions, right? I haven't even bothered to publicly make a list the last couple of years, simply because I suck at following through with it. I figured I'd just go really simple this year. My one and only resolution for the year is to put more focus on myself. I know this sounds really selfish but I've decided it is necessary. I've spent the last 7 years either being pregnant or nursing a baby and have lost sight of me. Don't get me wrong, I'm so grateful to be a mom and feel so blessed to have the children that I do. And don't worry, I'm not quitting my day job. I think for the good of everybody it's important for me to be healthy and happy. I turn the big 30 this year and my goal is to be in the best shape that I can be before that. I've decided to run a half marathon in October and am so exciting to get back into shape. The training has been going really well. I love being able to exercise on a regular bases again and can see the difference already. I have more energy and have been able to be more patient with my kids, so I think things are working out. My house has been neglecting while I try to get my miles in each week but I've realized that it will always be here for me to clean.

You are so right. You need to take care of yourself and feel good about yourself. I am so glad you are working out on a regular basis. You are much further along in running than I am, but you are also younger. Keep up the good work and never quit. Love you bunches mom.

Hooray for fitness goals and for achieving them! Can't wait to hear about your 1/2 marathon experience. Where will you be running it? Focusing on yourself doesn't sound selfish at all...when it's in balance of course. You know the scripture, "Love thy neighbor as thyself." Well, that implies to me that we must first love ourselves before we can love anyone else! I am a firm believer that exercise helps me to love myself in many ways and gives me the extra energy and motivation to do all the other things I have to do as a wife and mother. It is my time to reflect, ponder, re-focus, and re-commit to my many responsibilities. Everyone in your family stands to gain some rewards from you taking care of yourself!
