Family Home Evening

Kevin and I have made it a goal of ours to get our finances under control for 2009. (Thanks again Uncle Brent!) So we took the opportunity last night to talk to the kids about goal setting. We have made a family savings bank that we can all contribute to. The end goal is a swing set and trampoline. We also gave them their 'jobs' that will have to be done on a daily bases and at the end of the week they will get paid. Then they can either put their money in the family bank or choose to spend/save it on themselves. This may be a challenge for one child in particular, she has a hard time sharing things these days.

Kevin and the kids emptied our bag of change into a big water bottle and thought it was the best idea ever. Then they each had to take a turn trying to stand on it, another great idea they came up with.

Ben was a little nervous to stand all the way up.

Olivia could totally do it but she didn't like it one bit.

Thats a great idea for a FHE. I can't believe how big everyone is getting! I love Olivia's face in that last picture. She is clutching for dear life to that jug with her little toes.

good idea!! I really think it's great to involve the kids. Our have earned ALOT this last year as we have not had much money, but they found it hard to understand that he grocery mony wasn't toy money instead. They all realized they like to eat, so it was easy. We have really buckled down on the finances, it's easy to do when you don't have much extra money! But we've got less debt now than we did 5 years ago!

I think we will copy your idea! I have been trying to decide what chores get paid out and what chores are just because chores. Which ones did you choose?

You are so wonderful to enclude the kids. I really like the Idea of them earning the things they use and play with. Theuy will have mor fun on it because of ownership.
Sharing may be a trial but when you share owenership in an investment it changes. I hope that you will be able to enjoy them both by summer. Love you so much. Mom

GREAT idea! And good for you for teaching the kids that hard work, saving, and time all add up to fun in the end! A little sacrifice now for a lot of fun later!

What a neat FHE idea. And I can't believe how big and old Olivia is getting!

I would love to save for a trampoline. Maybe you can help me talk Jake into it. He really doesn't want one.

I think that I need to implement this with Nate. He still seems to think that if he begs enough he can just get any toy that he wants. But I'm a total pushover so it has always worked for him.

I love your new Entertainment Center!
