My brother and his sweet wife, blessed their baby a couple of weekends ago, so we headed to Maryland for a visit. My favorite time of year has always been Fall, which is a little ironic since I've grown up in Arizona my entire life and Fall is nonexistent. I've since found heaven here on the East coast and may never leave after experiencing my first true Fall season. Here is our weekend in pictures.
This is our new residence... okay not really, but maybe someday.
On our way home we stopped by the D.C. Temple and then headed into down town Washington D.C.. We started just East of the Washington Monument and walked all the way down to the Lincoln Memorial. It was a long walk with four children, a dog and no stroller but we survived. We got a late start, so we spent the afternoon there and made it home about midnight.
after she asked what all the names were for.
Side story: At this point the kids were exhausted and the sun was going down. There was no way I was going to walk the 3 miles back to the car, so the kids and I waited at the Lincoln Memorial for Kev to come and get us. As we sat at the bottom of the memorial Ryley asked me if we were going to go all the way up. I told her no, and that we'd get it the next time we came. I was thinking that there was no way in my right mind I was hiking up all those stairs with four kids after I had just walked those three miles with one strapped to me. Ryley was not happy and reminded me that the whole reason we came to D.C. was so she could see this memorial. We had just talked about him in school and so up the stairs we went. It was really crowded, I had Ethan in the baby Bjorn, Olivia on one hand, Ben on the other and Ryley holding his hand. We finally make it to the top, make our way through the crowd and Ryley says, "This is it, how boring. I thought there would be a lot more." I asked her what more she wanted and she couldn't really tell me but she was expecting more and was surely disappointed. What can you do. So we hiked all the way back down the stairs and met Kev at the car. We had such a fabulous time and realized we could spend an entire week in D.C. and still not see it all. Next time we'll take a stroller and leave Tilly at home.

Wow - awesome pictures!
Oh and next time use the elevator at the Lincoln Memorial. They have one for the strollers and wheelchairs.
We are so glad that you guys made it up and are welcome anytime you want to squeeze in more D.C. fun. And Tilly can stay and play with Paisley.
You guys are very brave souls when it comes to sight seeing with 4 children and a dog and no stoller. But the pictures and the time you spent together as a family were well worth it. Loved the picture of Ryley in front of the Vietnam wall. Love mom and dad.
Katie, you are a fantastic mom. I LOVE the picture of Ryley in front of the wall. She looks reverent. What a great example, especially on Veterans' Day.
I'm impressed you took Tilly. That's impressive.
Love you guys!
Katie, Those pictures are GORGEOUS!! I would really love to snag the first two if that's ok? I'm so jealous that you get to experience a REAL fall. SO lucky. What a fun trip it looks like you had! We sure miss your family around here.
The one of Ryley in fornt of the vietnam memorial is one she will love to see when she is older.
After going to DC with just Jake and I for the day I will wait until my kids are teenagers to take them. I cannot imagine dragging my kids around everywhere. Brave souls!
So it kind of got cold here today? Does that make it fall? No really...those pics are awesome! Too bad our cactus doesn't change colors like that.
Did you guys get washed away? I heard that it rained a little bit there.
And when say that you are going to leave Tilly at home, are you talking about what I THINK you are talking about? I suspect that Lori may have ruined that name for me forever.
Those are great pictures and the fall is amazing - I miss that part. I can't believe you attempted DC with no stroller and a big dog (I only remember tilly little) - you guys are nuts :)
